Complete Magus Class Guide for Offensive AoE - Battle of the Immortals (BoI)

Magus are the main AoE damage class in the Battle of the Immortals. Magus has with AoE skills compared to other classes. A well built and geared Magus is a good addition to instance dungeon runners because of their offensive crowd control magic ability. Successful Magus focus on maxing his damage output ability to wipe out many groups of mobs through the dungeons. At mid-game/end game stage they are a class to be loved by instance running groups.
In terms of solo play, this is the hardest class to master because they have relatively lower single mob damage output compared to Slayers. In addition, the weak overall defensive ability in terms of HP, physical defense, and evade prevents Magus from mobbing and killing sufficiently groups of monsters by himself. However, they can be quite deadly once fully geared with fortified gears and upgraded gems.

This guide will help you become a good AoE magus by helping you understand the stats, builds, end-game results, and skills of successful and effective offensive AoE Magus.

The Beginning - Stats and Builds
Stats of Focus
As a offensive magic class, your goal of being a Magus is to dish out as much damage as possible to groups of mobs while keeping yourself alive in the process.  Because of Magus' low HP and defensive ability, they are one of the hardest class to be mastered in the Battle of the Immortals. In group parties such as instance dungeons, they stay in the back dishing out ranged or area damage skills while the tanking classes tank the mobs.  To excel as a great offensive Magus, these are the main in-game stats that you need to find ways to boost:

HP:  This determines the survivability of your Magus.  In both instance dungeons and group PVP situations, you need to improve your HP count to stay alive and assist your team mates.

Magic Damage: Magical damage is one of the main stats that will directly affect how much damage output that the Magus can achieve.  To be a great offensive Magus, maximizing your damage output is the most important thing to do.

Fire Attack:  Fire attack is calculated into Magus skill damage such as the AoE skill Flamelick.  It should be noted that Fireball does not offer any bonus damage based on Fire Attack.   By optimize your equipments to maximize Fire attack, you can achieve great damage output while casting fire spells.

Ice Attack: Ice attack is calculated into Magus skill damage such as the AoE skill Frostburst .  By optimize your equipments to maximize Ice attack, you can achieve great damage output while casting ice spells.

Critical Strike:  Critical strike is important because it will boost your damage output when you critical strike spells.  These bonus damage strike are just what you need to boost your DPS.

Physical Defense: Physical defense is needed to improve your survivability similar to how the HP is important.

MP
: Magus relies on MP to cast their powerful spells.  Boosting your MP ensures that you can cast all of your spells with ease.  However, you only need enough MP to cast your spell sequence without draining it in full.  In practice, you need to use MP pots and MP food quite often to keep your MP replenished through the course of game play.

Accuracy:  This is the least important stats which matters more in the PVP arena of the gameplay.  You would need the additional accuracy to be able to hit some of the other classes with high evasion such as the Slayer.

Builds

Int:  This build is the best build for Magus in terms of damage output because Int boosts magic damage. Magus is a AoE damage class for instance dungeon parties, therefore Magus should focus more onj achieving the best damage output.

Spr: This is a possible build for Magus however it is not recommended.  Pure Spr build will grant you more MP, however the MP count is not as important compared to boosting your overall damage output.  Most of the time you would rely on potions or other MP restoring items for replenish your MP.

Spr/Int:  This hybrid build takes in the mixture between spr and int builds.  It is also not recommended because there is no clear advantage and the help from the little additional MP is limited.

Vit:  This is a possible build to allow you to be able to take in a couple extra hits.  This is also less important because you should rely on the tanks of your dungeon parties and avoid taking the hits yourself.

Dex: This build is not recommended because the extra accuracy does not increase Magus damage output much compared to Int.  In addition, the extra Evasion gained from dex is negligible as well.

End Game Magus
End game scenarios for Battle of the Immortals are usually defined as level 85+.  However, it is not especially true for Magus class.  Both of its level 85 skills are geared toward PVP use.  Generally speaking, any Magus can dish out great AoE damage, as long as they are well geared with highly upgraded Soul Gear with high level gems. Magus are usually wanted in mid and high level instance dungeons because of their AoE and ranged magic skills.  However, sometimes Slayers class are still preferred over Magus, because Slayers are more versatile with great single targets DPS while still also having some AoE skills.

Magus Skills
As an offensive AoE class, you should focus on consistently leveling your AoE spells and boosting any passive skills that can increase your overall damage.  However, at lower levels you could level a little 1 vs 1 skills for leveling purposes and at later levels switch your focus to the AoE's.
For the active AoE attacks, Flamelick is the first primary AOE you get at level 25. Frost burst becomes available at level 55, Eruption at level 70, and lastly the more PVP focused Brain Freeze at level 85. The AoE skill that provides the best DPS is the Frostburst spell which offers low cool down time and up to maximum number of 10 targets.  It should be noted that although the Fire based spells do provide higher one time damage, their DPS is low because of the significantly higher cool down time.
For the passives buff skills. Cold logic at level 10 is good at higher levels after you get more ice-based skills, but not EXP/money efficient for early levels. You'll also get the Evocation skill at level 40 which can improve your MP and accuracy.  Inspiration at level 70 which can boost your int further for maximum damage.

Equipments
To be a really good offensive Magus in the Battle of the immortals, you need to have strong and aka expensive gears to be highly successful.  Below are some of the guidelines that you can follow to obtain those gears.

Gems
As an mainly offensive AoE class, gem your equipments in such ways that will maximize your damage output.  The order of importance for gemming is as followed:

Magic Attack Gems
Ice Gems
Critical Strike Gem
HP Gem
Fire Gems
Accuracy Gem

Do not worry about putting gems in any gear below 60 Soul Gear because you out levels your equipments pretty fast compared to the time that you would spend to upgrade your lower level equipments

You should slot in high level magic attack, ice attack and critical gems in every possible gear, generally speaking you would need to have +3 gems or better.  You could also consider HP gems to boost your HP to survive better in most situations.

For weapons, focus on Magic Attack, Ice Attack, and Critical gems.
For other equipments, focus on HP and physical defensive being the least important.

Gear Fortification
You should save money for the major upgrades due for your level 100 Soul Gears.  To be cost effective and save your coins, you could simply fortify your lower level gears to +4 for the gem slots.  By level 100, you could spend most or all of your money to complete your level 100 Soul Gear to +10 or at least to +7 for 3 gem slots. You will become a very powerful offensive Magus when you are fully gemmed.

The pet selection for Magus is quite versatile, you could either go AoE to further boost your AoE damage output, single target DPS to cover your weak single target DPS aspect, or Spr as your MP "petpot".

To use AoE pets, you could either go with Vit pet for better survivability or Dex for more crit strikes. For single target dps, an Int pet such as a Nightwitch or Gemini is good for Magus because Magus has buffs which can further power the pet.  For Spr pets, they can convert 30% of their MP into your MP which can be a pot saver during urgent situations where you run out of MP.

Before level 50, you should use the best Int pet that could assist you with your general leveling.  However you should not spend any significant money or coins in fortifying the pet because you will outgrow it very soon.

When you are about level 70, you should really focus on getting a good AoE pet and a secondary Spr pet as back up.  By level 70+, you will most likely level in groups.  The additional damage boost from AoE attacks are important while the additional MP comes from the pet will help you greatly.  You should make good use of these two styles of game play when its suitable.
