Section 3:  Trading Opportunities Throughout the Game Play.
How to recognize good trading opportunities to make profit.

1. Understanding The Player’s Time Zone
Basic:
Understanding the players in your server is one of the most important thing.  Once you understand how people in generall act, you can react accordingly and profit.  Most people live according to their clock, and time zone is a major way of predicting how MMORPG market works.

Buy Low:
Most players tend to open their private shops right before they go to sleep, and restock before they start their day after some of their items have been sold overnight.  To buy items on the cheap for night hours, you could start monitoring the marketplace starting around 9:00 p.m. or as late as 10:00 p.m.  For morning hours you could aim for 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

It should be noted that night hours are great because lesser players restock their shops early in the morning.  However, some people do drop their morning shop prices because their items have not been sold overnight. Both time periods can work in your favor if you understand how most players act.

Sell High:
As soon as you have obtained items on the cheap, you could start selling the items at a higher price.  You could consider having multiple accounts logged in.  You should dedicate one of the account as  a full time merchant selling your goods.  However, the prime time to sell is when between the peak hours and before players go to sleep.  Similar to the ideas that people open shops before they go to bed, players also tend to browse before they open shops and AFK.  This is the perfect time for you to vend your items and make money.

Risk:
By constantly monitoring the marketplace and sell at a profit, your risk is pretty minimal.  However, you do run a risk of having too much inventory if someone else decides to sell at prices much lower than you.  And you do not have enough resources to buy them out.

2. Rarity, Uility, and Collector’s Mind
Basic:
Rare things usually cost higher compared to common items.  It is based on a general law of supply and demand.  With rare items, what you need to truly understand is if it is truly rare, useable, and if people are willing to pay big bucks to possess one in their inventory.  People are willing to pay a premium for items that others do not have, and you can use this concept to profit from this general behavior.

Buy Low:
There isn’t really a way to buy low.  If an item is rare, it is probably pricey to start with.  What you can do is to haggle your way to obtain the best deal possible with the intention of passing the item to the next player.

You do need to make a sound judgement by using all of the resources that you can use.  Forums, other websites, other game versions can help you make an educated guess on the prices that you should pay.

Sell High:
If your one of a kind item stay as one of a game or extremely rare/powerful.  You can always expect to pass it on to another willing player who will pay similar prices.  With in game inflation as a continuing force in most games, you can generally make a profit down the road.

You could also attempt to generate player interest by releasing information or demonstrating how powerful your item is.  With heightened player interest in the rare item that you hold, you can ask more money for your rare item.

Risk:
You might lose the value of your rare item entirely if the game developer decides to cahnge to drop rate or release new contetnts with more powerful equipments.  This risk is always present so you need to make educated guess on when to pass your rare item with a profit to unknowing players.  You cannot make any profit if your merchandise becomes worthless.

3. Remember where the Good Shops Are (Either by bot farmers or really good grinding players)
Basic:
You want to buy from players that can give you good prices.  You can then in turn selling those items to other players for better prices.  Huge and fat profits are made from these transactions.

Buy Low:
Once you have an idea where some cheap sellers vend their items, frequent those areas regularly to ensure that you are the first one to buy those items.  Most of these shops look legit, however they do sell items at lower than normal prices.  These are the people who want to get rid of their items fast for money.  However, these player could either be the dreaded gold farmers or really good grinding players.  But either way, you should make profit by buying from these people.  If you do not, someone else will.

Sell High:
Once you have bought the item at lower price range.  Resell them right away because some of your items may lose value.  You want to turn over your inventory of items very fast to be able to buy more numbers of items and more expensive items when available.  Usually the bid and ask price between these kind of transactions are so huge, it is hard for you to lose any money.

Risk:
If you cannot turn over your items fast enough, the market may change.  The bot farmers and really good grinding players might pump out more items which flood the market.  At which time you will be forced to sell your items at a loss.

In addition, it should be noted that if you buy from a bot farmer with a huge price discreptancy often.  For example, an 1 million money item is only sold for $1.  You might be viewed as an accomplice to the gold farmers if you buy from them often.   You could get banned permanently from the game once the game publishers target you as gold farmers.

4. Wholesale Pricing from Players
Basic:
To trade and profit in a MMORPG, you basically buy low and sell high.  To win at this game, you need to buy at prices directly from the source, and resell to the willing buyers.

Buy Low:
Network and know players who are hunting a specific map nonstop.  Talk to them directly and ask if you can buy items off them.  Study the current market prices for the going items and pay less for them.  Although you are making profit from this transaction, you are helping the player by turning over his items to make money.

You should make offers decently enough to encourage people to trade with you.  However, you do still need to make profits or else you are wasting your time.

Sell High:
Resell the items that you have obtained from other players for a profit.

Risk:
The player might eventually decide to bypass you and sell the items themselves.

5. Work to Collect Sets of Items and Profit
Basic:
A part of winning and being a great merchant is providing a service for other players.  Ultimately, you can make money by providing service that can make the lives of other players easier.  There are many items in game that require you to complete whole sets in order to get the benefit of the equipment.  If the market condition allows, you could collect sets of items to sell them at a premium for the work that you do.  These sets of items may include treasure maps, quest items, and equipments.

Buy Low:
You can buy separate pieces for a set of equipment at the lowest prices that you can find.  The lower your cost is, the more profit that you can eventually make by selling the set in whole.

Sell High:
Sell the set of item that you have collected at a premium.  You will have willing buyers who either is lazy to complete the set themselves, or they simply are not capable of doing so by themselves.

Risk:
You may still lose money if you do not monitor your budget on the individual items.

6. Sell Convenience at a Premium
