The housing units in Cityville are essential in game. Housing units can increase your populaton level. Higher populations can unlock more businesses which can in turn generate more money for you. Below I will go through two different important ratios and you can decide which one is the best for your City depending on the stage of your game play.

The two ratio that I list below are population per land area and gold spent per population gained. It should be noted that the two ratios are viewed differently. The higher the population per land area is better, you gain more population per unit of land which makes it more efficient. The lower the gold spent per population is better, you spend less money to gain more population.

Make your own judgement depending on the stage of the game you are in. If you have more land than you need, spend less money. If you have more money, build high population houses.

I have chosen to leave out the rent component in this analysis because you should mainly spend your energy on collecting business rent. Business rent income yields better return than housing rent.
